外国语学院2012年富布莱特访问学者系列讲座(一)

Jane Hunter holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in American Studies from Yale University and has taught for the past twenty years at Lewis & Clark College(Oregon).She is a modern social and cultural historian of the United States and has taught courses in modern US history, the history of race and ethnicity, women’s history, along with colloquia in such areas as the American war in Vietnam.With other members of the department, she was a founding member of the College’s Ethnic Studies Program. Her first book,Gospel of Gentility: American Women Missionaries in Turn-of-the-Century China(1984) won Yale University Press’s Governors’ Award, and her second,How Young Ladies Became Girls: The Victorian Origins of American Girlhood(2002) the Outstanding Book prize from the History of Education Society.She is currently working on a project on the Peace Corps in the Philippines in the 1960s with the working title “Peace Corps/Philippines:Gender and Public Relations on the New Frontier.”
