Fifth High-End Forum on Foreign Language Discipline Development Successfully Held at CUFE

The Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) successfully hosted the Fifth High-End Forum on Foreign Language Discipline Development in Finance and Economics Universities on November 1-2, 2024, at its Shahe Campus. Guided by the CUAFLL and organized by its Committee for Finance and Economics Universities, the forum was hosted by the School of Foreign Studies of CUFE, bringing together representatives from over forty finance and economics universities to explore “New Quality Productive Forces” and the cultivation of high-quality business foreign language talents.

Opening Ceremony

The forum opened with welcoming remarks from key leaders:

Li Zheng, Vice President of CUFE, welcomed attendees and highlighted the university's achievements in talent cultivation and foreign language discipline development.

Wang Xuemei, Deputy Secretary-General of CUAFLL, reviewed the original mission of the association and the success of previous forums, expressing wishes for continued success.

Xiang Mingyou, Director of the CUAFLL Committee for Finance and Economics Universities, commended CUFE's preparation efforts and expressed confidence in the forum's potential for fostering meaningful academic exchanges.

Huang Zhenhua, Dean of the School of Foreign Studies at CUFE, presided over the opening ceremony.

KeynoteSpeeches

The forum featured several thought-provoking keynote speeches:

Professor Xiang Mingyou(UIBE) addressed “Discipline and Major: Reflections on Business English Development,” emphasizing the need to clarify distinctions between discipline and major while aligning with national strategies for international communication.

Professor Wang Xuemei(SISU) explored “Global Competence Cultivation and Foreign Language Teacher Professional Development,” analyzing new quality productive forces and proposing pathways for enhancing students' global competence through teacher professional development.

Professor Xu Jinfenpresented on “Teaching and Research Competency of Business Foreign Language Teachers,” proposing a five-dimensional framework for enhancing teacher literacy in finance and economics universities.

Professor Xu Jiajin(BFSU) introduced the concept of “Prompt Quotient (PQ)” as a crucial dimension in foreign language teachers’ digital literacy, particularly relevant with the emergence of generative AI.

Professor Li Zuowen(BFSU) discussed “Language Intelligence and New Quality Foreign Language Talent Cultivation,” exploring how large language models are transforming foreign language education and offering guidance for adapting to new teaching paradigms.

The keynote speech session was chaired byProfessor Qiao Xiaomei(Shanghai University of Finance and Economics),Professor Wen Jianping(Shanghai University of International Business and Economics),Professor Sun Yongbin(Nanjing University of Finance and Economics),Professor Liu Zhongxiao(Dean, School of Foreign Studies, Capital University of Economics and Business), andProfessor Wen Xiuying(Dean, School of Humanities, Tianjin University of Finance and Economics).
